Day 2: 7-Weeks in Heaven Bible Challenge

It’s Day 2 of our Bible challenge and I already see God revealing things to me that I never considered in the 15,000 times I’ve read these pages. It is so good when you can see the Word of God come actually happening in your life. The first part of James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you….” and I am experiencing that in real time. I pray that you are as we read these passages together for the next 50 days.

Now, on to the good stuff. Our reading for today is Luke 1 and it is discussing the birth of John and Mary’s visit to Elisabeth and Zacharias. I just wasn’t paying attention in church because we read this story every year around Christmas time, but it never clicked. God used Elisabeth to encourage Mary that the impossible was possible with God.

"For with God nothing shall be impossible" Luke 1:37

Mary was between the age of 12-15 when the angel visited her and there was no way she fully understood all the things she was facing being engaged in an arranged marriage, but to top it all off she was supposed to get pregnant by God. How merciful is the Lord that He prepared an example for her in someone she trusted. She knew her cousin Elisabeth well enough to know that she loved God and served Him with her life. For her to be chosen to have a child as old as she was, surely Mary could be chosen to have God’s child as young as she was.

I find it beautiful that as soon as Mary and Elisabeth saw each other and Elisabeth blessed Mary in Lune 1:45 Mary immediately begins to praise the Lord with a better understanding of the task for which she had been chosen. Though she might not have grasped the fullness of what life would look like as mother of the Messiah, she definitely knew that she was “blessed among women” and that God has done a “great thing” to her.

I pray that more women get to experience the type of mentorship that Mary experienced with Elisabeth. To find a woman they trust who has been through what they are facing and know that God will do for them what He did for their friend. Releasing the way that it was done to God because every story is different, but trusting that the outcome will be exactly what you need, for the glory of the Lord.

My favorite part about studying the Bible as a group are the varying points of view and how the Holy Spirit points out different things to every person. Comment below on what God showed you about today’s reading that you never realized before. See you tomorrow!

I love you,
