What's Your Superpower?

HM SUIT | SHRIT FROM TORRID

As we close out women’s history month and I think about how much we have been through in the first three months of the 2020 I can’t help but wonder at how brilliant, powerful, and resilient women are. During this time, I found myself searching to find the areas where I am most powerful.

It’s so funny how times change, I didn’t grow up with the notion of powerful women in the forefront of the conversation and certainly didn’t have as many examples in mainstream media as my girls do, but one thing that hasn’t changed is that I am their first and most important example of what it means to be a strong woman. I don’t want them to realize that I was strong when they are in their 30’s and they finally get what it is to be a black woman in this world. I want it to be a realization they see now, when they are six and eleven, that their mom is brilliant, powerful, and resilient. I want them to see now that strong women make it work when the plan goes awry and that strong women can cry and ask for help and embrace our own weakness as well as the weakness of others, because there is power in that too.

Now, I know that the source of my power comes from my Creator and the Lover of my Soul, Jesus Christ, but I am still in the process of discovering which areas of me He made most powerful.

I know for sure, that he made me powerful in the way I love. I love hard, strong, and for life. My friends and family will tell you that I am their biggest cheerleader, fiercest protector, and hugger extraordinaire. But God gave me a heart for those I don’t know, a heart for young girls who might not know who they are just yet, a heart for women who are struggling to be freed from the tricks of the enemy vying for their affection, and a heart for those longing to know the love of Christ even if they can’t name it. LOVE. IS. MY. SUPERPOWER.

Right now, there are more tangible ways in which I can demonstrate my power, and use what God has given me to help those who need it most. I have just started to believe that I am powerful in Jesus and am only now tapping into that power across the various areas of my life such as confidence, leadership, and organization. While we are facing the unprecedented situation that is COVID-19, I am stepping out to use my superpower, albeit from afar, and send you love and light through this blog, as well as letting you know how you can helpin this crisis.

Like Peter Parker, leaping from building to build for the first time, I am starting out in nervous obedience. But I know that if I stick with Jesus and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, He will catch me at every step and continue to propel me to the next best thing.

What is your superpower? Have you always known or is it new to you? How do you move as a powerful woman in this world?
