Who Is in Your Boat?

Who Is in Your Boat?

We are all in this Corona storm together, but it is affecting all of us differently. Some are feeling this thing as if they are in a rowboat and other as if they are on a cruise ship. I know it’s hard, but wherever you are, try to see past the waves and rest like Jesus rested. Be confident in the fact that when it is time, He will tell the storm to cease and it will obey.

There are two famous stories of the disciples being in a storm with Jesus. In one story (Matt. 8:23-27), He was in the boat with them asleep during the worst of it. In the other story (Matt. 14: 22-33), He met them, feet atop of the waves, in the middle of the sea. The disciples responded the same way in each storm, they panicked and ran to Jesus. In one instance He calmed the storm and delivered them safely to the other side. In the other He called some of them out to walk in the storm with Him. God uses difficulty or “storms” as a tool to get our attention and bring our focus back to Him and His authority over our lives. This virus is no different. There is nothing I have seen that is more out of my control. And we now have more time than ever to run to Jesus with our panic, anxiety, and fear. Use this down time to hear how He tells you to move during this time in our lives. Is He telling you to be still and ride it out or to step in it and come to Him in the 10-inch waves? Whatever you hear, know that when Jesus is in your boat the storm will cease, whether He’s already there or this storm made you jump ship and run to Him. Matthew 14:28 says, And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. They= you + Jesus. No matter what it looks like around you, when you are in the storm with Jesus, you are safe.

Peace be still was not only talking to the waves of water overtaking the boat, but the waves of anxiety, fear, and doubt that try to rise up during times like these. This storm is scary and our current situation is unstable and seems like it’s about to capsize, but hear Paul when he tells us in Phil. 4:5-7, “The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made knows to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Stop letting the bad news rock you, inhale the peace of Jesus, and exhale worry and fear. He’s got us and we will make it through this.

I love you.
